In view of the environmental impacts that global warming and pollution can have, such as forest fires or rising water levels, it's becoming increasingly important to be conscious of our lifestyle choices and habits. At Clinique dentaire Beaulieu, Lapointe et associés, we're concerned about the impact dental clinics have on the environment, and we've implemented a number of initiatives to reduce our ecological footprint, while maintaining a sterile work environment. Did you know that companies in Quebec are not required to have a recycling bin on their premises? At our clinic, we make sure to recycle in the blue bin all paper, cardboard and glass, such as the back of the sterilization bags used for all our dental instruments. What's more, we're using less and less single-use plastic in favor of reusable materials. For example, for the prophylaxis paste used during cleanings, rather than using small disposable cups, we use bulk prophylaxis paste which hygienists use in a reusable container for their patients. We also use stainless steel water cups instead of plastic ones to provide patients with mouthwash before treatment. These cups are sterilizable, so there's no danger of transmitting bacteria or viruses between patients. Another way we're going green is by reducing the number of paper files. Indeed, we are on the way to becoming a paperless clinic where all patient information is entered directly into their digital file. This process saves thousands of pieces of paper per year, and keeps all information on a secure network, with no possibility of loss. It's important to remember that some materials used in clinics, such as biomedical waste, can be harmful to the environment and cannot be disposed of in an environmentally-friendly manner. However, we believe that every gesture mentioned above improves our ecological footprint and makes a difference to the environment and the planet.
