Although they are rare in the mouth, to avoid any mishaps, here are a few <strong>instructions to follow<\/strong> after your tooth extraction:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Apply pressure to the site with the cotton pad provided until bleeding stops.<\/li>\n<li>Change the gauze every hour until the bleeding stops.<\/li>\n<li>A progressive soft diet is recommended. Do not eat hot or spicy foods.<\/li>\n<li>Do not rinse your mouth or brush your teeth in the area for the first 24 hours after surgery.<\/li>\n<li>After the first 24 h, rinsing the mouth with saline water (1 tsp. in 1 cup of water) may help clean the site. Do not spit!<\/li>\n<li>It is recommended to take analgesics (Tylenol\/Advil) before the local anaesthetic has worn off, and to take them as prescribed. Do not wait for pain.<\/li>\n<li>Swelling and bruising may occur. It will peak in 48 hours. Apply a covered ice pack to the operated area for 15 to 20 minutes every hour for 48 hours.<\/li>\n<li>Finally, rest!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>WHAT NOT TO DO :<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Avoid any suction (drinking through a straw, smoking, spitting, whistling, etc.) ESPECIALLY during the first 24 hours.<\/li>\n<li>Do not smoke for at least 7 days.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid all physical activity following surgery, and reduce strenuous physical exertion for 5 to 7 days.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Having a tooth extracted can be frightening.
